Buhari sacks Service Chiefs, appoints new officers




AFTER
persistent pressure from Nigerians, to remove the former service chiefs, President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, finally succumbed to the public request and sacked the service chiefs who have overstayed their tenure for several years and replaced them with new officers.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina; President Buhari  has named the replacements for the sacked chiefs.
The statement reads: “PMB appoints new Service Chiefs. Maj-Gen. L.E.O. Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, Army; Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, Navy; Air Vice Marshal, Ishiaka Oladayo Alao, Air Force.
“He congratulates outgoing Service Chiefs on efforts to bring enduring peace to the country.”
In an announcement today, Media adviser, Femi Adesina, said Buhari has accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs, and their retirement from service.
Those involved are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
While the new Service Chiefs are: Major-General Lucky E.O. Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air-Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao, Chief of Air Staff.
Buhari thanked the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he called their “overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to our dear country.”
He also wished them well in their future endeavours.
Buhari also congratulated the new Service Chiefs, and urged them to be loyal and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities.
