THE Lagos State Police PRO, SP Chike Oti, has advised public not  to be dragging with armed robbers. The advice came after a graduate of Lead City University, Ibadan, Liberty Whitney was rescued from the hands of bus robbers, popularly called “one chance”, by the team of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS of Lagos State Command, in which the driver of the bus driver was shot dead.

According to Whitney, "l boarded a commercial bus with other passengers from Oshodi to Mile-2. On getting to Rainbow Bus-Stop, two men boarded the bus and pointed guns at us. While other passengers were screaming and jumping down from the bus, I was held back by one of the robbers. When I made another attempt to jump down, another robber pointed a gun to me with the threat of shooting me if I didn’t comply.

“They asked for my phone, bag and money. When I was reluctant, he hit me on my chest with the butt of his gun. I couldn’t breathe well for some minutes. Immediately, I handed over all I had with me to him, he pushed me down.

“Some minutes later, the driver of the vehicle was shot and pushed out. The robbers shot several times into the air and sped away when they saw RRS. But the policemen continued chasing them. On getting to Mile-2, the robbers jumped out of the bus and abandoned it. That was how I got my documents, except my phone. The driver died later at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after all efforts to revive him failed.”

...arrests man recharging credit from another person’s account

IN addition, RRS has arrested a man who specialised in recharging call credit from another persons' bank accounts. The suspect was arrested after the owner of the account reported the matter at Aguda Divisional Police Headquarters in Surulere.

According to the female victim, she noted the fraud after she received a debit alert from her bank account that she had recharged a sum of N1,000 call credit without doing that, as the same-thing continued for almost eleven months. The woman reported the case at Aguda Police  Station, from where it was transferred to RRS for indepth investigation.  This led to the arrest of the suspect, who confessed that in July 2016, in trying to make a living after the truck he was driving was retrieved from him by the owner due to misunderstanding. With nothing to eat and maintain his family needs.

After he recharged his phone line with a short code giving to him, he was credited N1,000 immediately. “I tried it the following day and got credit of  N3,000 and so I continued everyday and months; and I started selling the credit to people before I was blocked and arrested.”
