COMMUNITY FOCUS: Govt should not bring politics into religion — Fabusoro

*Says it was prophesied before birth he’ll become great minister of God
Archbishop Peter Oluwasanmi Fabusoro, is the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ejigbo Branch. In this interview, Fabusoro explained how his revolutionary efforts stopped former Governor of Lagos State, Col. Buba Marwa from demolishing churches in Ejigbo and warned government not to bring politics into religion. Excerpts:

Can you tell us about yourself?
I am Archbishop (Dr.) Peter Oluwasanmi Fabusoro. I had an inherent prophetic call right from my mother’s womb. A prophet in my town in Ekiti State told my parents that I will be a great servant of God in future which later came to fulfillment. I attended St. Benedict Catholic Church School Ayede Ekiti from 1955-1960, Ajayi Memorial Anglican Secondary School, Ayede Ekiti, 1961-1965, Diploma in Store Keeping, Purchasing, Sales and Supply. Also Diploma in Advertising and Marketing; Fellow, Institute of Marketing and Management.
I started as a Storekeeper and Purchasing Officer, Oke-Afa Farm Limited; Sales and Purchasing Manager, Phaco Limited; Clerk in the Federal Ministry of Labour, from 1965 to 1968. Depot Manager at Askar National Paints and Sales Manager at African Paints  Limited.
After my studies, I came to Lagos and I was very active in church activities at Church of the Lord Aladura and Methodist Church, Olowogbowo, Lagos Island. I was very popular, being a composer, a chorister and an organist. But I had to succumb to God’s call to leave secular job. I fasted for 30 days to seek for God’s intervention, favour and discerning heart before I established my church in 1987. In 1988, the church had problem with Lagos State Government, as regards pulling down of churches. Then, I led the delegation with a strong petition during the time of Governor Buba Marwa, the church demolition was stopped. My courageous role to challenge the state government then and my activities in the community, made my other ministers of God elected me head of CAN in Ejigbo LCDA.
Tell us more about the CAN activities?
We formed a formidable CAN which I led for 21 years and later voluntarily retired because of my other activities. I fought for Christian denominations to establish churches. I was made coordinator of CAN, Ejigbo LCDA.
What is your relationship with other religious organisation?
We are in good relationship, even with our Muslim counterparts. We do organize rallies, Bible Quiz competitions and we invite other religious adherents. We have Women Chapter of CAN, known as WOWICAN. We also organize youth programme. Last December, we had a three-day prayer session for the Nation, that God should stop and banish Boko Haram, kidnapping from Nigeria and bring peace into our country. We prayed for the President in his effort at fighting corruption. We also prayed for good governance and for former governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Babatunde Fashola, Governor Akinwumi Ambode, for his rural and urban development, especially two roads per local government which is bringing more development to the communities and his other pragmatic programmes; in his efforts to turn Lagos into a Mega City.
What do you expect the FG to do for Lagos State and religion?
Lagos State deserves a special budget as a commercial nerve centre of Nigeria. We want our Federal Legislators to co-operate with the President to ratify the 37 LCDAs into local governments. Finally, government should steer clear of religion and should not bring politics into religion.
