A 300-level student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, identified as Chidozie Ezeoma, has been found dead after he joined his classmates on a picnic at Adada dam, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State. It was gathered that the deceased, who was the first son of his parents, was not found when his classmates took head count of those who went for the picnic, forcing them to return to the dam, only to find his dead body in the water. However, there was confusion due to marks of violence on the deceased’s body. Some of the deceased’s classmates expressed shock at his death, adding that he was a good swimmer and may not have died in the dam. A police post located on Olayiwola Close, Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos State, was, yesterday, set ablaze by hoodlums, who invaded the station. It was gathered that the hoodlums also attacked and injured one of the policemen on duty. According to police sources, the policeman, who sustained an injury on the head, was rushed to the emergency centre at the toll gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for treatment. The police source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said: “The fire was put out but part of the building of the police post was affected and no weapon was stolen.” It was gathered that the prompt arrival of officials of the Lagos State Fire Service to the scene helped salvage the situation. Confirming the attack, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin,  said an investigation into the case had commenced, adding that no suspect has been arrested.

...strangles 90-year-old custodian to death TRAGEDY struck in Irese community, lfedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, as a commercial motorcyclist, allegedly strangled a 90-year-old, Ajayi Ajisegiri to death in a desperate bid to steal the community’s oracle. Consequently, two suspects, Dada Ologundudu, 71 years and John Samson, 27 years, have been arrested by police detectives. It was gathered that the deceased was a chief, oracle custodian and also the head of hunters in the community. His death at Oke Mission had thrown the entire community into grief and confusion.
