*Injured three SPORADIC gunshots rent the air, as dare devil armed robbers invaded Owalla community in Ibadan, Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State. Three people were seriously injured during the attack. The robbers swooped on the community around 2:45a.m., yesterday, and started breaking windows and burglaries of buildings with dangerous weapons. Though men of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun responded early to the distress call made by a chairman of the landlord association in the area, who preferred anonymity, the hoodlums had attacked two houses leaving some people injured. HUNDREDS of women from Ekakpamre community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, have called on the federal and state governments to rescue them from the incessant attacks and gang-raping of women by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The mostly aged women, during the protest wielded fresh leaves and placards with inscriptions, such as “We do not want cows in our bush”,  “They graze on our land”, “We are being raped and chased from our farms”  and accused security agencies of supporting the herdsmen against them.  The leader, Mrs. Loveth Boyi, who addressed newsmen, during the protest, said: “For over three years now, Fulani herdsmen have been troubling us, chasing us away from our farmlands. “Just last week, five women were raped in their farms and as a result, we can no longer access our cassava farms, either to plant or harvest.  “The herdsmen will harvest our cassava and other farm produce and give to their cattle, our husbands are not going to the bush....

THE Federal Government has planned to initiate a new creative means of funding tertiary education by granting universities the autonomy to explore new sources of financing their activities. It also lamented the unabated attacks on education in the country, recalling with sadness the recent gruesome murder of a female nursing student of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, Miss Atanda Modupe Deborah. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, has said universities in the country were in desperate situations regarding the pressure to produce quality graduates with very limited resources. She likened the situation to when a person was mandated to run a sprint race with his hands tied behind his back.“She spoke on Saturday night in a virtual press briefing in Lagos. Ogunsola, who said she was part of the students that took part in the "Ali must go" protest in 1978, expressed support for students peacefully expressing their reservations about any issue, but warned that they should not let such become violent. She explained that even if the 35,000 student population of the university paid up the new rate, it would amount to about N800 million,  which was not even enough to meet the electricty bill of the institution that she put at over N1.7 billion annually. THE Police Command in Lagos State has arrested two persons suspected to be involved in the killing of a truck driver at Mile 2 area of the state. The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to NAN, yesterday. Hundeyin said the truck had been towed to the Lagos State Transport Management Agency, LASTMA, yard in Oshodi. He said: “Two suspects have been arrested and they are helping the police in ongoing investigation.” Unconfirmed reports, Tuesday, had said men of the state task force allegedly killed a yet-to-be identified person at Mile 2 area, along Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Five persons, on Tuesday, narrowly cheated death on Ureje River in Ado Ekiti, as the river overflowed its bank along Federal Poytechnic Road, Ado Ekiti, wreaking havoc on the surrounding buildings. The five persons were said to be coming from Ureje area, and made frantic efforts to navigate the heavily flooded  bridge, when they were overran by fast flowing water, which carried them into its valley. An eyewitness told journalists in Ado Ekiti, yesterday, that the victims, who could have been drowned, were saved by some Hausa divers, who waited at the bridge to help the elderly cross the flooded spot. The eyewitness, said: “The five victims were struggling to cross the bridge with high and heavily tidal water level when suddenly they were washed away by water.
