Scene of a truck crushed motorcyclist. THE Naval Rating, who allegedly stabbed and shot a medical doctor two weeks ago in Lekki area of Lagos, has been arrested. His arrest was confirmed by Director of Naval Information, Commodore Adedotu Ayo-Vaughan, weekend. The medical doctor, Owen Edo-Ojo, who went for a spa session on Gbamgbala Street, Elegushi, Lekki, at about 7.30 pm parked his car in front of a building reportedly owned by a senior military personnel. Explaining what happened, the mother of the injured doctor, who took to the social media to alert military authorities, said her son had barely turned off the ignition when a man in mufti knocked on the vehicle. DESPITE the N38 billion paid power generating companies, GENCOs, by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, NBET, for December cycle and another N39 billion for January, the power supply situation in the country has not improved, as generation remains at low 2,054.70MW. It was gathered that  as at 3pm yesterday, only 13 of the nation’s 32 power plants were generating 2,054.70 megawatts, with Azura-Edo plant highest at 399MW and Geregu (gas) at 394MW.  The implication of this is that power supply is yet to improve as the country is still in darkness.In a note to Vanguard, weekend, NBET said GenCos would be paid another N9 billion from the Power Sector Reform Programme, PRSP, soon.The company noted that the amount was paid despite the electricity distribution companies’ remitting only 51 per cent of their invoice during the same period.It said: “NBET paid N39 billion to GENCOs in first tranche of payments towards the settlement of January 2022 Payment Cycle. THE Conference of Pro-Chancellors of State-Owned Universities in Nigeria , COPSUN , have lamented that incessant industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, remains an impediment to improving quality of education in the country's higher institutions. COPSUN said this at its 6th biennial conference held at the Osun State University main campus, in Osogbo. A communiqué by its Chairman, Mallam Yusuf Alli, SAN, stated that strike action cannot proffer needed solution to the already traumatised higher institutions of learning in the country. UNIVERSITY of Nigeria Nsukka athletics team at the Nigeria University Games ongoing in University of Lagos has recorded an unprecedented feat after Kingsley Chinecherem Onyia won three gold medals in the long-distance races. This would be the first time an athlete from the UNN is winning the 10,000m, 5,000m and 3,000m in the history of the Games and according to coach Tony Tunde Ogbu, the feat is the beginning of good things to come for Nigerian athletics in general.
