The Police in Abia State have arrested one of its officers, identified as Corporal Chinedu Nwachukwu, for allegedly raping a student of the State Polytechnic, in Aba. This is as Governor Okezie Ikpeazu  condemned shooting at protesting students of the institution by some police officers. Academic activities had  been halted at the institution as students took over Aba -Owerri Road protesting the alleged rape of three students by policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad, RRS. Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abia State Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, in a statement, expressed regret over the disgraceful act allegedly committed by the policemen. “After visiting the victim at the hospital and obtaining information from her, an investigation was launched that led to the arrest of the suspect. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reiterated its readiness to embark on electronic transmission of election results whenever it gets legal backing, saying Nigeria is ripe for the deployment of the technology. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who stated this in a 25-page "Position Paper No. 1 of 2021" released, yesterday, in Abuja, said Nigeria has adequate Information Communication Technology, ICT, infrastructure for e-transmission. "The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC believes that it has developed adequate structures and processes to successfully transmit election results electronically. Electronic transmission of results will improve the quality of election result management and that our engagement with stakeholders shows that the Nigerian public supports it. PETROLEUM Tanker Drivers, PTD, branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG , yesterday, issued an October 8  nationwide strike to the Federal Government to address three key pending issues. The issues are deplorable federal roads across the country, petroleum trucks safety valve and abuse of tonnage capacity by oil marketers and transporters. Members had earlier scheduled a nationwide strike for March 27, 2021, but had to shelve the action after pleading and assurances by government that the issues would be addressed. However, seven months after, the issues have remained unresolved and unattended to by the Federal Government. MORE facts have emerged on how police officer in charge of operations at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, Chief Superintendent of Police, Kazeem Abonde was killed during a clash between okada riders and policemen, last Thursday. The first account said that trouble started when the policemen stormed the area and started seizing motorcycles from the riders. The source stated further that after the policemen had seized the motorcycles and put them in their mini trucks, the okada riders went berserk.
