Tinubu honours Falcons players, each gets $100,000, nat’l honours, house

He also announced allocations of three bedroom apartments and cash prizes of $100,000 (approximately N153m) to each of the players.  This is as the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, also announced a cash donation of N10 million each for the victorious Super Falcons.  Tinubu announced the package as he hosted the Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following their dramatic landmark victory on Saturday in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, final held in Rabat, Morocco.  The President also said the 11-man technical team supporting the Super Falcons will receive $50,000 (around N75.6 million) each in cash awards as a token of appreciation for their contribut...

Aside from Abuja, the protest took place simultaneously in Edo, Plateau, Kwara, Taraba and Cross Rivers states, among others. LG polls: LASIEC presents certificates of return to elected chairmen, councillors

THE Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, yesterday, presented certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors of local governments and Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in the state. Speaking during the presentation, LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), commended the electorate, stakeholders and over 45,000 ad-hoc staff for their active participation and dedication throughout the electoral process.  She acknowledged initial accreditation delays but praised the swift and effective support of security agencies across the state, which ensured public safety remained a top priority. She said: “The certificates of return signify the beginning of a new era of political journey for the elected officials, who are expected to serve the people of Lagos State for the next four years.”  She affirmed that the new officials’ tenure will begin as the current administration concludes on July 26, 2025. Govs renew push to delist Labour from Exclusive List

*It’s a threat to national stability, NLC, TUC, NECA warn Indications have emerged that some state governors have renewed their push to remove Labour matters from the Exclusive Legislative List in favour of transferring them to the Concurrent List. This campaign, which resurfaces each time there is an attempt to amend the military-imposed 1999 Constitution, has consistently been driven by a minority of vocal state governors. These governors, apparently motivated by a desire to pay workers slave wages, appear unaware of the position of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), to which Nigeria is a signatory, regarding labour standards. The move to delist labour matters began under President Olusegun Obasanjo and has persisted under successive administrations. Senate probes Ponzi schemes in Nigeria

THE Senate has begun a probe into Ponzi schemes in Nigeria, with particular reference to the recent Crypto Bullion Exchange, CBEX, incident. It said the holistic investigation into their activities had become imperative, following the rapid proliferation and alarming rise of unregulated and fraudulent investment schemes, commonly known as Ponzi or pyramid schemes, such as MMM Nigeria in 2016; MBA Forex in 2020, to mention a few, which have repeatedly defrauded Nigerians, causing severe financial hardship and, in some cases, depression, family breakdowns, and even suicide. Consequently, the Senate mandated its joint committees to conduct a comprehensive investigative and public hearings on the operations of Ponzi schemes in the six geo-political zones of the country to urgently  educate and sensitise Nigerians on the need for awareness and report back in four weeks.
