CSOs kick against Lagos LG Bill

Image
A coalition of civil society organisations, has kicked against the passage of the Local Government Administration Bill, 2024, by the Lagos State House of Assembly, saying it is a contradiction of the Supreme Court’s judgement. The groups said the Supreme Court in its verdict of July 11, 2024, affirmed the autonomy of Nigeria’s local government councils, saying anything contradicting the apex court’s decision would be an unfair practice. Addressing newsmen during a protest staged at the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Spokesperson for the Lagos People Assembly, Mr Kola Abe, said: “If the Supreme Court has given victory to local government autonomy, I see no reason the Lagos State House of Assembly will want to contradict what it has said. Here, we are saying no to it because Lagos State is not different from other states. We are saying that the laws of the land must be obeyed. They are the lawmakers, not lawbreakers.” On his part, the National Coordinator of Campaign Against Impunity

The Shamsuddeen Usman Foundation, recently founded by Usman's children in his hounour, was also introduced to the audience. The emir is one of the 12 contributors to the book, titled, 'Public Policy and Agents Interes
