2-hour rainfall renders hundreds homeless
A torrential rainfall that lasted two hours in Ondo State, has wreaked havoc in Ipogun, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state, leaving many residents homeless.
Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the downpour, which was accompanied by a heavy storm.
Several houses, shops, church buildings, electric poles, and schools, including a part of the community’s health centre, among others, were destroyed.
According to an eyewitness, a Deeper Life Bible Church building in the community was destroyed, as the iron roofing sheet and ceilings were blown off by the rainstorm.
He said: “The downpour is the third rainfall in the community in the last four days and the heaviest in decades coming with snowdrops.”
Also, another resident, Adeola Ajayi, lamented the destruction caused by the downpour to her goods and solicited the state government's assistance for urgent help.
Another resident, who identified himself as Kolawole, who lost his aged father’s properties to the rainfall also called on the Ondo State government to assist them with relief materials.
Reacting, the monarch of the town, the Adapogun of Ipogun, Oba Raphael Ojo, described the incident as the most destructive in the history of the community, as he called on the relevant agencies of the state and Federal Governments for urgent assistance.
