A 22-year-old woman, Cynthia Asogwu, was Tuesday shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen at the Signboard bus stop, Ojo along the Badagry expressway, Lagos.
Cynthia Asogwu was on her way to work when she was attacked and killed by suspected robbers, who have been terrorising commuters, motorists and traders within Iyana Isashi, Okoko, Alaba Rago and its environs.
It was gathered that the robbers shot Cynthia in the head for refusing to hand over her handbag to them.
The remains of Cynthia Asogwu, abandoned in the pool of her blood, were later recovered by the police.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said: "At about 10 am on Tuesday, the police received information that robbers had attacked a victim, Cynthia Asogwu, at the Signboard bus stop. When the policemen got to the scene, she was lying in the pool of her blood. She was positively identified by her relatives.
“Her corpse has been moved to the Badagry mortuary for autopsy. No arrest has been made yet but investigation is ongoing.”
Mob burns 2 suspected mobile phone thieves
Hundeyin, also confirmed the killings of two suspected robbers by an angry mob at Cele Bus stop on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
It was gathered that the two young men were found with 18 mobile phones suspected to have been stolen in the early hours of yesterday.
An eyewitness said: “The two guys, before their death, were interrogated and they confessed that they were from Ajegunle area.
“The victims were mobbed following accumulated anger of frequent thefts around the shops in the area in the last few weeks.”
Reacting, Hundeyin, who confirmed the story, said the command condemned the act of jungle justice in Lagos. He said the people in the community would tell the police all that they knew about the incident.
He said: “Jungle justice is a crime in our law. People should not take laws into their hands. When you see a crime, report it to the police. We are on the trail of those involved.”
Police foil attempt by robbery gang to smuggle firearm into Lagos
Meanwhile, Policemen attached to the Safer Highways Unit of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled an attempt by a suspected robbery gang to smuggle firearm into Lagos.
Consequently, a suspected member of the gang, Bamidele Taiwo, 30, was arrested during a routine stop-and-search at an entry point between Lagos and Ogun states, in the Alagbado area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that Taiwo and two other fleeing suspects were on a motorbike when they were stopped by the policemen, who requested to know what was inside the bag one of them was carrying.
But his colleagues immediately took to their heels, abandoning him. When the bag was searched, a Chinese-made pistol was found inside the bag.
