Infidelity: Man stabs wife to death

A 24 years old man, Mojiyagbe Olamilekan, has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his wife to death with scissors.

Olamilekan, a resident of Oke Ola area of Ode Remo, in Remo North Local Government Area of the state, was arrested yesterday.

The suspect, according to the command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, was arrested following a distress call received by the police in Ode Remo Divisional Headquarters that the suspect locked himself and his wife, Seun up in their room.

The informant told the police that Olamilekan was busy beating his wife and it was the wailing of the wife that attracted the neighbours, who tried all efforts to persuade the suspect to open the door but he refused.

Oyeyemi said: “Upon the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ode Remo Division, CSP Olayemi Fagbohun, mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the door to the couple’s apartment was forced opened.

“The victim was met lying down unconscious in the pool of her blood. She was rushed to the state hospital in Isara Remo where she was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.

“The husband was promptly arrested and taken to custody, while the corpse of the victim has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.”

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation with the view to charging him to court as soon as possible.

Ibadan poly student shot on campus

There was confusion at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Tuesday, after an ND 1 female student, identified as Taibat Babatunde, was reportedly shot outside a lecture hall within the school premises by the school’s security officers.

Sources revealed that the shot was fired when the security men of the school were trying to arrest a student, who reportedly committed a crime, adding that the stray bullet from the ammunition they were carrying hit Taibat where she was sitting with her friends.

It was gathered that after the incident at the sewage area of the campus late Tuesday afternoon, the victim was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Soladoye Adewole, stated that the victim is in good condition and recovering fast.

He said: “It’s an unfortunate incident that happened yesterday (Tuesday) and the girl is being treated at the University College Hospital (UCH). She is alive and she is in a very stable condition.

“The management has constituted a committee to look into what happened and the Deputy Rector, Mrs Abiodun Olubamiwa is the Chairman of that seven-man committee.

“The committee is due to submit its report by Monday, 8 November.

2 wheelbarrow pushers die in fight over N200

A heated altercation, which led to a fight between two wheelbarrow pushers, has led to the death of the two men in Aba, Abia State.

An eye-witness told newsmen that the wheelbarrow pushers had, Tuesday morning, engaged themselves in a fight over who should carry some goods purchased by a trader at Cemetery Market in Aba.


He said the men engaged in a brutal fight using dangerous weapons on each other over N200 to be received for assisting the trader to carry the goods.

The sources said as the fight raged, people intervened, but the men refused to heed the pleas of the owner of the goods and other persons to settle the matter.

The witness said one of the wheelbarrow pushers stabbed the other in the abdomen, neck and other parts of his body during the fight, which resulted in the death of the man.

According to him, noticing that the other wheelbarrow pusher had died, the assailant made to run away but a mob descended on him and killed him on the spot.

Confirming the deaths, yesterday, in Aba, the Police Command in Abia said the altercation, which degenerated into a fight resulted in the death of one of the combatants.

The command’s Public Relations Officer,  SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, said following the death of one of the fighters, a mob killed the other.

2 students kidnapped in Edo

TWO students of a private school in Igarra, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Glory Land Group of Schools, have been kidnapped.

Vanguard gathered that the children were in a car travelling to Auchi in Edo State when the gunmen intercepted the car late on Tuesday.

They were forcefully taken into the bush after shooting sporadically.

Meanwhile, as at press time, the kidnappers were yet to make any contact with the family members.

Contacted, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Bello Kontongs, said: “Two of the students were kidnapped and moved into the bush. A combined team of police operatives, soldiers and vigilantes are already combing the bush for possible rescue.”

He assured that the combined security operatives will rescue the victims unhurt.

Bandits rape 2 minors, attack family head, others in Kwara

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen, yesterday, attacked Nuku village in Kaima Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducted two minors of the same family and left the head of the family and one other person with serious machete wounds.

The abducted girls were later released after the abductors reportedly had carnal knowledge of them.

This was disclosed by the spokesman of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command, Babawale Afolabi, in a statement in Ilorin.

According to the statement, “in the early hours of Wednesday, yet-to-be identified gunmen invaded Alhaji Hassan Yunusa’a settlement located in Nuku village in Kaima Local Government Area.

“Our checks revealed that the assailants were looking for money. But they ransacked the whole place and could not find anything.”

Babawale stated further that the attackers later left Alhaji Yunusa and Woru Yunusa with multiple machete wounds and went away with two girls whom they released a few hours later after they had carnal knowledge of the girls.

“At press timet, the two victims are said to be receiving medical attention at Woro General Hospital while series of medical tests are being carried out on the two minors that were raped by the abductors.

“In the meantime, efforts are ongoing by security operatives to apprehend the assailants while further investigations are on.”
